“Nila kaigiradhu, neram theigiradhu,
Yaarum rasikkavillaye, Endha kangal
mattum unnai kaanum.”
The sun was setting down. I was sitting
on a bench near a window sipping coffee and looking outside. I could see a group
of boys playing volleyball nearby, 2 friends enjoying some lone time at the
garden, people walking to and fro and a thought arose. The moment stopped. With
my coffee mug in the mid air, I got lost in thoughts. At times, we forget about
relishing, enjoying the moment.
Recently, I changed cities, got a job, just
came out of college, started living with new people in a new environment and it
has been overwhelming from the start. I go to office, eat my breakfast, attend
sessions, take breaks, eat lunch, fill all kinds of forms every other day, meet
new people, evening sets in and head for home. The one thing or rather the only
thing which i have noticed since getting into this next stage of life is, I
fail to observe the moment. I forgot what is called relishing.
Two times a day, I go to cafeteria / canteens,
look at boards, pay cash at counters, take the token, stand in line with a
plate in hand, take the food, and find a place to sit, look at the watch and
start eating food. There is only two kind of food - good and the bad. I eat it as soon as possible and leave the
canteen. I take coffee during tea breaks. I press the button, liquid pours in, and
I take the hot cup and start drinking with my eyes on the watch. During weekends,
the day starts lazily, even though how early we start. I look at places which has not been covered yet,
pick up friends, start for the city, switch vehicles, click pictures, find
places, ask for different poses, keep an eye on watch, visit colorful malls,
get lost among the crowd, eat food at new joints, buy / not buy merchandise,
switch vehicles again and back to home. At home, transfer photographs from
camera to laptop, again transfer it in a drive and distribute to all. At times,
we are so carried on with surrounding that we forget some substantial elements
of life.
Well, the realization came sooner than
later. While taking a stroll down the lane the other day, I started observing
my surrounding. The flowers, dust covering them, people, clean roads,
everything surprised me. Involuntarily, I slowed my stride and saw the world
running around me. There was so much to look up; even my eyes weren't enough to
see them all. Time flew past and I didn't even know I spent a few hours just
roaming around my home. I was lost again in this huge world.
When we start living our moments, even
bad coffee tastes better, food gets tastier, people become more interesting. This
so called fast paced life slows down itself. The morning sun and the huge blanket
of stars above your head become your company and keep you engaged.
I am holding a hot beverage sitting on
a bench all alone thinking and writing, hearing a soft song being played
somewhere far. My phone beeps; I get a message from a friend, my cycles of
thoughts take a turn. My moment is waiting.
Moon is shining, time is fading,
There’s nobody to enjoy it, these eyes
alone will watch you.
